Wellness and wineries combined

Just 10 minutes from Daylesford, this town’s tree-lined main street is perhaps best known for the historical Glenlyon General Store that now operates as a cafe. The area’s rich soil means this is a town built by agriculture, so be sure to stock up on fresh vegetables while visiting.

Pack a picnic to take either into the countryside or the Glenlyon Recreation Reserve, where there’s a mineral water pump. Another must-do stop is Loddon Falls, where the water cascades over basalt columns. At its base is a waterhole suitable for swimming during the summer.

Drop by Attwoods Wines to taste the pinot noir, chardonnay and other varietals, or book lunch at Le Bouchon, its French restaurant inspired by the seasons. Wombat Forest Wines is another option producing a small range of handcrafted wine, with a cellar door that opens on weekends.

More interested in wellness? Samadhi Retreat is a sanctuary offering spa getaways, wellness programs and luxurious accommodation.

On New Year’s Day, the community and friends from further afield come together for the Glenlyon Sports Day, battling it out for glory in the bullboar eating, mineral water drinking, woodchopping, gumboot throwing and kids’ events. It’s old-fashioned family fun.
