Want to see something spectacular? With its 32-metre cascade, Trentham Falls is the highest single-drop waterfall in Victoria. You can’t get to the base of the falls, but there’s a picnic area and a lovely reserve, as well as the lookout from where you can catch the action.
Closer to Daylesford, head to Sailors Falls, thought to be named after the sailors who jumped ship off the coast of Victoria to try their luck in the goldfields. The water here plunges into a fern-filled gully. Bring a picnic – there are undercover tables – and your water bottle to fill at the nearby mineral springs.
On the edge of town is manmade Lake Daylesford. The two-kilometre loop trail is popular with walkers, but other outdoor lovers swim or kayak in the peaceful water. Not far away, Jubilee Lake, with its walking trails, barbecue facilities, playground and canoe and paddleboat hire, is a popular family destination. There’s also a holiday park with cafe.
At Creswick, Calembeen Park is home to two lakes, with waterlilies and birdlife. They’re popular for swimming, fishing and, around their banks, walking and cycling. Just outside of Creswick, another popular swimming spot is St George’s Lake. Surrounded by eucalyptus tree, you can follow the 1.8 kilometre Lake Loop Walk before taking a dip in this picturesque spot.
