Visit Daylesford and surrounds

For thousands of years, the area around Daylesford has been renowned for a rich supply of mineral water, especially at Hepburn Springs, that bubbles from deep within the earth. The Dja Dja Wurrung people have used the springs as places of gathering and healing for millennia.

Thousands of years later, the Swiss Italian immigrants protected the springs from gold-mining damage, and today people travel from far and wide to soak in their mineral goodness.

Now, as well as wellness tourism, this region offers excellent gourmet offerings, including hatted restaurants, family-run wineries, small-batch distillers and organic farms. Then there’s the natural beauty of the likes of Mount Franklin and quaint towns including Trentham, famous for its spectacular waterfall and relaxed small-town charm.

In Creswick, spend some time discovering the art of the Lindsay family, a historical woollen mill or some of Victoria’s best mountain bike trails.

Booklovers should add Clunes to their itinerary. As well as being one of Australia’s only book towns, it hosts the annual Clunes Booktown Festival that attracts authors and readers from around the world. You might recognise it for another reason: its historical streets have played a starring role in movies and television programs.

Spend a few days – there are boutique hotels, wellness retreats and cosy cottages from where to base yourself – and become immersed in all the good living Daylesford and surrounds has to offer.
