Painters, printmakers, ceramicists, sculptors and photographers all call this place home, filling local galleries with their vibrant and diverse works.

Kyneton has several options, including Stockroom, which shows contemporary work in a former butter factory, and The Old Auction House. Those with creative flair should check out its range of workshops.

The Convent Daylesford offers both an extensive, ever-changing collection and a beautiful outlook from the top of Wombat Hill. Nearby, you’ll find Bromley & Co and Black Gallery, where artist Christina Doyle also has her studio, while Bromley & Co on bustling Vincent Street is the flagship studio of the popular and highly collectible artist, David Bromley. Down the road, Hepburn’s Radius Gallery shows the work of artists who live within 50 kilometres of the space.

In Maryborough, Central Goldfields Art Gallery, set in a transformed former fire station, includes permanent and touring collections, while Castlemaine Art Gallery & Museum has a unique collection of Australian art, First Nations cultural material and artefacts reflecting the early history of the region. Lovers of the natural world should visit Bullarto Gallery, where landscape artist Phillip Edwards works and shows his paintings. For something different, check out the contemporary works at Cascade Art in Maldon or view the sculptures at Blampied’s Overwrought Garden & Gallery.
