Treasures lost and found

The vibrant town of Lancefield has something for everyone: eclectic shops in historical buildings, a state-of-the-art brewery and family-friendly cycling trails. It’s also a magnet for wine lovers – just minutes from the town, you’ll find picturesque vineyards producing award-winning wines.

Spend the afternoon exploring the area’s boutique cool-climate wineries, including Lyons Will Estate, with its light-filled cellar door, and Granite Hills Winery. Perched atop spectacular boulder-strewn hills, it has sweeping views and complimentary tastings. There’s also Curly Flat, Cleveland Estate and Parkside Winery.

For lunch of dinner, head to Lost Watering Hole, a family-friendly brewery and restaurant that pays tribute to Lancefield’s unique history as the location of one of the richest deposits of megafauna fossils in Australia.

For adventures on two wheels, explore the Federation Trail, an easy 16-kilometre return cycle through rolling farmland from Lancefield to Romsey. On the fourth Sunday of the month, pop into the Lancefield & District Farmers’ Market. Want to stay for a day or two? Cleveland Estate features 50 spacious suites with king beds and ensuites, plus a historic 1887 homestead that sleeps up to 14 guests. Those who like to sleep amongst the vines will also love Glen Erin Lancefield, this boutique vineyard retreat is home to 24 elegant suites – some with spa amenities – and a homestead ideal for group stays.
