Springs aplenty

In days gone by, it was the allure of gold that drew people to this verdant land. Today, it’s the elixir of life: water. More specifically, it’s the underground network of natural mineral aquifers that are more abundant here than anywhere else in Australia. In fact, 80 per cent of the country’s natural mineral springs are found in this region.

It’s called mineral water for a reason. The springs in this region produce water with naturally occurring essential minerals that, for centuries, have been lauded for their health benefits. These natural springs bring life to this region, evident in the lushness of the landscapes and the exceptional flavour of the produce grown in the mineral-rich earth.

Head to Hepburn Mineral Springs Reserve, where there are several springs, and Lake Daylesford to find Wombat Flat Mineral Springs and Central Springs Reserve. More springs reserves can be found in Kyneton, Glenlyon, Sailor Falls and Lyonville. Find a full list of all the springs in the region, as well as directions to get to them, at the Mineral Springs of Victoria website.
