Set on the edge of the Wombat State Forest, halfway between Trentham and Daylesford, is the picturesque town of Lyonville. Here is where you’ll find the start of the Domino Rail Trail. Running along the old railway and linking the town to nearby Trentham, it is an easy and picturesque 12-kilometre return walk or bike ride through Wombat State Forest. It will take you about three hours, but you’ll spot birds and wildlife along the way and come back refreshed from all that country air.
Set among a candlebark forest is Lyonville Mineral Spring. This pretty site has picnic areas, fireplaces, shelter and a hand pump beneath a rotunda for access to mineral water. Fleurs de Lyonville is a micro-flower farm offering floral design workshops throughout the year and two-hour guided tours of the farm from November to March.
In February, the town hosts the annual Lyonville Woodchop. For more than 50 years, this event has showcased the finest axe wielders and nail drivers. In October, the annual Lyonville Bake Off draws bakers from near and far for a day of delicious fun and friendly competition.
