Take a break

The gateway to Daylesford and the Macedon Ranges, Gisborne is a port of call for many. Admire panoramic views from Mount Gisborne Reserve, where you’ll also likely observe some of the local kangaroos when you hit the walking trails. Closer to town, the Jacksons Creek Trail wends its way through Gisborne Botanic Gardens, past a playground and along the stream.

On the first Sunday of each month, browse plants, crafts and homemade eats at the popular Gisborne Olde Time Market. There’s more shopping to be done: find classic, quality fashion at Mae and everything for around the house at Gisborne Village Homewares and Furniture.

Foodies are spoiled for choice with many Gisborne dining options within walking distance of each other. Japanese street food with bold flavours is on offer at casual ZenZen. Try Asian-inspired dishes, from different varieties of dumpling to exotic curries, at The Flying Pigeon, which also offers regular dumpling-making classes. Closer to the train station, at New Gisborne, is all-day Baringo Food & Wine Co. Grab a coffee and eggs benedict in the morning, a cocktail on the terrace as the sun sets or dinner in the bistro.
