Start by researching what’s available on the Dayget, Daylesford Country Retreats, Discover Daylesford or Flophouse websites, where you’ll find entire pages of pet-friendly accommodation.

For posh pooches, The Dudley Boutique in Hepburn Springs welcomes well-behaved pups as does the Potting Shed at Acre of Roses in Trentham and Whiskey June in Maryborough.

Those looking for a budget-friendly option can book one of the pet-friendly motel rooms, cabins or caravan sites at Golden Country Motel and Caravan Park in Maryborough. Pets are also welcome to stay at selected sites and cabins at the BIG4 Castlemaine Gardens Holiday Park.

PLAY

Victoria’s Heartland is made for adventures with your lovable companion by your side. Enjoy easy strolls around Lake Daylesford, Lake Jubilee or Goldfields Reservoir.

For a more challenging walk, choose from one of the many at Macedon Regional Park. Take the short hike to Camels Hump, where you will be rewarded with sweeping views towards Hanging Rock.

Many trails in Mount Alexander Regional Park are dog friendly, including the aptly named Dog Rocks Trail. The region also has plenty of designated off-leash dog parks for a run and play. Remember to keep your dog on a leash unless otherwise signed.

EAT & DRINK

From sweeping vineyard views to relaxed garden settings, many of the region’s cellar doors offer the perfect place to unwind with your pup by your side. Head towards Mount Macedon to sample distinctive local wines at Hanging Rock Winery and Mount Macedon Winery. Or for an authentic Italian experience, including bringing your dog along for the adventure, visit Mount Towrong Vineyard to sample their Italian varietals.

Discover organic and minimal intervention wines visit Captains Creek Winery and Attwoods Wines. To taste some of the region’s best cool-climate wines head to Kyneton Ridge Estate, Wombat Forest Winery or Paramoor Winery & Farm. The latter even extends its pet-friendly approach to accommodation, welcoming dogs, cats and horses.

The alfresco dining areas at Lavandula and Castlemaine’s The Bridge Hotel are perfect for a leisurely lunch with your furry friend. Cliffy's Emporium in Daylesford welcomes dogs on its terrace and covered verandah year-round, with water bowls, treats and even frozen dog yoghurt available.

Hepburn Distillery welcomes dogs indoors while you sample the distillery's range of locally crafted spirits. Or sip on a cider-tasting paddle at Daylesford Cider, where friendly pooches (on a leash) are welcome in the marquee courtyard and terrace spaces. While Hepburn Springs Brewing Co., the Daylesford Hotel, Sisko Chocolate in Trentham and The Station Cafe, Bar & Restaurant in Maryborough all offer outdoor spaces where dogs are welcome.
